Engineering Design & Development: Year 3

About

The final year of the UCHS Engineering Pathway concludes in Engineering Design and Development (EDD). The course’s primary objective is for students to use all the skills they have gained from the previous years and apply them to researching a unique solution to a real-world problem. Students will then get to build and test their prototype while applying the scientific method to see how they can optimize their creative design.

Design and Build

In teams, students will have access to the entire workshop to build and complete their design. Each design will be unique and may require the use of different skills such as 3D modeling, circuitry, CNC machining, welding, and laser cutting. Students will continue to refine their teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills as they complete each element of the design process.

Professionalism in Industry

At the end of the year, each team will justify and present their final designs to a guest panel of engineers and industry professionals. Teams will also be presenting a formal project report and final prototype for a grade. While EDD teaches technical skills, students learn many social and business skills that can be implemented in college and careers.
